The Importance of a Morning Routine

A morning routine is a key factor in establishing the right intentions for your day. Personally, I try to start every morning the same way for consistency and to start on a positive note. Your routine doesn’t have to be perfect, you just have to like it!

You don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to have a solid morning routine, you just have to spend your morning a little more mindfully. Be sure to wake up and engage in activities that make you feel good, show good habits, and set good intentions. Of course, get up early enough to do what makes your feel best, but I always recommend a little wiggle room. Enjoying your morning routine is difficult when it’s rushed.

I haven’t always had a morning routine and it’s taken some time to get comfortable, but the one I have now is great. I don’t always fulfill my morning routine everyday but I do most day. On the days after I skip a day, it feels like a whole new beginning. Skipping a day can really help put it in perspective, an off-morning just feels different.

So, allow me to walk you through my daily morning routine and how it works!

My Morning Routine

I work for a virtual high school, so I work from home. I’m really lucky that first period starts at 9:15 am. While living with my parents, forced to work at home during the pandemic of last school year, I had a really difficult time getting into a routine. My goal this year working for a legitimate virtual school was to bring back some normalcy to my day.

For a gentle wake up, I set my FitBit for 6:00 am and snooze for ten minutes! Something about that cat nap! I make sure to chug back some water when I wake up before mixing my Energize pre-workout. I make sure to give myself enough time that it will kick in by the time I’m ready to sweat!

Then I head to my office to practice daily gratitude and prioritize my day! I love the 5 Minute Journal, it gives me a moment of positive reflection in the morning. It asks: What are 3 things you’re grateful for? What would make today great? and one affirmation for the day in the morning. Before bed you’re asked: What are 3 good things that happened today? What is one thing you could don’e to make today better?

After my 5 Minute Journal, I make a quick to-do list of things to tackle for the day. I learned from my coach Erika at Erika’s Confidence Co. to use the 3×3 rule. Write down 3 things you have to get done and 3 things you would like to get done. This will help you focus on your priorities for the day without too much overwhelm.

Just before 6:50,
I get dressed and head to the basement with my water bottle and my speaker. I workout for 30-40 minutes 5 days a week. I find this is what works best for me to make sure I move. When I first started Beachbody I would workout when I got home from work because school started at 8:10 am and I couldn’t get up any earlier. I am not a morning person. My favourite programs at LIIFT4, 21 Day Fix Real Time, and Barre Blend! I can’t wait to try MBF this winter!

At 7:30 I wrap up my workout and head upstairs to shower it off! While I’m getting ready, I make a smoothie and drink while I go to make sure I’m ready 15 minutes before first period! I have first period prep this year. If I had class during first period, I would probably start work at 8:30 instead.

At 9:00 I’m ready to work and take on the world! Having my to-do list completed means I’m ready to dive into emails, contact students, and prep some lesson materials. Having morning prep is my ultimate dream, with a change to my schedule coming, I will get ready to make a shift to my routine!
